Nowadays, software development companies are understanding that an effective way to increase the productivity and quality and reduce costs is through a reuse program.

On the other hand, there are several factors that should be considered to introduce a reuse program in companies as, for example, the combination of technical (methods, processes and tools) and non-technical (education, training, human resources, etc) aspects. In this context, several questions are identified such as: What are the first steps to develop reusable software? What are the more efficient approaches? What are the available experiences? Which organizational structures are necessary? How the current and future reuse practices are being integrated with the software development process?

The WIRE 2008 intends to discuss these issues based on tutorials and keynote presentations with some of the main names in the software reuse area around the world, involving university and industry, besides panels composed of the main practitioners in relevant companies in the national and international scenario.
