Overview:
The maintenance of legacy systems in companies is an expensive and risky activity. Expensive because the systems were developed with technologies that can be outdated and whose experts are hard to find, with old development techniques and often outdated documentation or no documentation at all. And it is a risky activity because the company depends on the operation of these systems to do their business.
The LiFT proposal is to decrease the costs and risks of the reverse engineering, knowledge recovery and understanding of legacy system activities through a semi-automatic approach to aid the software engineer in his activities.

Benefits:
LiFT allows the software engineers to analyze the source code visualization in a way that it can be more clearly understood and documented. The tool provides the visualization of system entities and their inter-relationship, and has features for searching, metrics abstraction and representation, source code visualization, among others. Moreover, the tool automatically analyzes the source code to detect clusters, the application flows, and infers data layers. Additionally, the documentation construction is made in an interactive, semi-automated way, based on the understanding performed by the software engineer.
